The name Rota Vicentina comes from the Parque Natural do Sudoeste Alentejano e Costa Vicentina. One of many protected natural parks in Portugal. We tried the inland Historical Way first. The ‘Fisherman’s Trail’ runs almost exclusively along the wild coast, passing through the regions of Alentejo and Algarve in 13 day stages. It starts in Porto Covo. The regular section, which can be completed in 4-5 days, finishes in Odeceixe.
